Week 17 Recap: Tuesday Edition
Hooked On BoNix Tops Smash Mouth 1 and Wins League Consolation Championship
Hooked On BoNix beat Smash Mouth 1 160.86 to 152.08 to improve their season record to 3-0 against them. They improve to 10-7, while Smash Mouth 1 drops to 9-8. Hooked On BoNix put their best into this matchup, scoring the eighth-highest point total in the league this season. Their average score in the series is 153.43 points, much more than their season average. Tee Higgins scored three touchdowns and was the reason for the win, getting 40.10 points. The Cincinnati WR has been a good post-draft pickup for Hooked On BoNix, averaging 19.35 on the season. This is the closest win for Hooked On BoNix in three head-to-head matchups. They beat Smash Mouth 1 143.48 to 124.96 in Week 11 and again 155.94 to 83.66 in Week 2.
There are a few spots where Smash Mouth 1 is really kicking themselves, unfortunately. Jalen McMillan could have started in place of either DJ Moore or A.J. Brown, while Tyjae Spears could've played over Rachaad White. Any of those point differentials would've altered the outcome.
In addition to the fantasy victory, Hooked On BoNix was savvy enough to select winners in real-life football, as well. Among all of their starters, Bo Nix is the only one whose NFL team didn't win this week. Also, with 12 targets this week for Higgins, it means that his targets have now increased in three consecutive games.
For the winning side, several players have been heating up in the postseason, including Higgins and Ladd McConkey. During the playoffs, that duo has exceeded their season scoring averages by 160% and 70%, respectively. Despite the loss, Smash Mouth 1 had a few players performing their best in the playoffs, most notably Jonathan Taylor and Joe Burrow. During the postseason, that combo has averaged 33.70 and 29.48 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 163% and 37%. On the other hand, the losers had a couple of players who struggled in the playoff spotlight: the Denver Broncos DEF and White.
