      Week 16 Recap: Tuesday Edition

Damien Gets Victory over Pirates to Get Shot at Championship

Damien beat Pirates 136.28 to 101.84 for their second win in as many head-to-head matchups. The two teams now have the same overall record, sitting at 10-6. De'Von Achane (120 Rsh Yds, 70 Rec Yds, 1 TD) got 31.00 points, which was higher than his 26.70 points in the last matchup with Pirates.

Dowdle had plenty of opportunities for Pirates, but could only manage 51 total yards on 16 touches.

It wasn't all bad news for Pirates, as they did put together a team of real-life winners. Each of their starters played for an NFL team that won this past week.

For the victorious side, a couple of players have been peaking at the right time: Jerry Jeudy and Mark Andrews. Over the past four games, that duo has surpassed their season scoring averages by 44% and 42%, respectively. Conversely, Damien has a player trending the opposite way. Derrick Henry has substantially underperformed his year-to-date average recently. Despite the playoff loss, Jared Goff was playing well during the stretch run for Pirates. Over the last four games, he has averaged 26.34 points, exceeding his year-to-date number by 40%. On the other hand, the losers had a player who was tailing off at the end of the year. Cooper Kupp has fallen short of his yearly average by 36% over the past month.

Using a hot run to end the season, Damien headed for the playoffs as the No. 3 seed. Next week, the league championship will be decided when Damien faces No. 4-seeded James. Damien is undefeated against James in two matchups this season, with their last win coming in Week 14. Pirates finished the regular season in second place with a record of 10-5. Perhaps benefiting from some good fortune, they ranked just eighth in the league in scoring average at 116.73 points per game. Pirates was sent home quickly this postseason, losing in their first playoff matchup.
