      Week 17 Recap: Tuesday Edition

Mack's Dirtybirds Beats Squiddington, Nabs League Championship

Mack's Dirtybirds got past Squiddington 145.50 to 137.88, led by Tee Higgins, who recorded the highest score by a player this week with 40.10 points. Mack's Dirtybirds took a 55.10-point lead on Thursday and remained in front for the rest of the matchup. Mack's Dirtybirds goes to 1-1 this season against Squiddington, avenging a Week 8 loss (154.80 to 146.68) the last time the teams met. Squiddington was led by Zach Ertz with 25.20 points (72 Rec Yds, 2 TD) and Sam Darnold, who scored 24.78 (377 Pas Yds, 3 TD/1 Int).

Squiddington had one glaring starter that missed out on some opportunities. Despite being targeted seven times, Terry McLaurin could only reel in one catch. One position where Squiddington really made a regrettable choice is wide receiver. Jerry Jeudy could have started in place of Terry McLaurin, and that point difference would've altered the outcome.

It wasn't all bad news for Squiddington, as they did field a team of real-life winners. Every starter except Chris Boswell suited up for a winning NFL team in Week 17.

For the winners, a few players have been playoff studs, most notably Jonathan Taylor and Higgins. During the playoffs, that duo has surpassed their season scoring averages by 163% and 160%, respectively. Despite the loss, Squiddington also had several players performing their best in the playoffs, including Brian Thomas Jr. and Bucky Irving. During the postseason, that combo has averaged 26.05 and 20.60 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 61% and 51%. Conversely, the losers had several players who struggled in the playoff spotlight, including Boswell and the Minnesota Vikings DEF.

Mack's Dirtybirds finished the regular season in third place with a record of 10-5. When considering points per game, they ranked slightly better (second with 133.21). In their only other postseason game on their path to the championship, Mack's Dirtybirds beat Kirk's Cousin, 157.02 to 149.38. They handed out their fair share of pain this year, as they tallied six blowout victories on the season. Squiddington ended the regular season in fourth place with a record of 10-5. In terms of scoring average, they ranked slightly better (third with 124.93). In their only other postseason game of the season, Squiddington slipped by KOOkie Monster, 154.84 to 149.86.
