      Week 17 Recap: Tuesday Edition

CHIEFSPAT Pounds Evan and Wins League Consolation Championship

Fueled by the three-headed monster of Tee Higgins, Brock Purdy, and DeVonta Smith, CHIEFSPAT overpowered Evan 174.78 to 112.46. That threesome combined to score 100.38 points, topping the production from the top scorers from Evan (Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Ja'Marr Chase), who totaled 83.46 points. Higgins scored three touchdowns, accumulating 40.10 points (131 Rec Yds, 3 TD). Meanwhile, Purdy put up 377 passing yards (30.28 points) and Smith scored two touchdowns (30.00 points). CHIEFSPAT took an 18.10-point lead on Thursday and never looked back. CHIEFSPAT goes to 2-1 this season against Evan, avenging a Week 15 shellacking (169.42 to 92.18) the last time the teams met. CHIEFSPAT, already one of the highest-scoring teams in the league this season, beat their 119.36 per game average by 46%. The result might have been even worse as CHIEFSPAT had a starter score zero points (Cole Kmet).

Evan had one noticeable starter that left points out on the field. Despite being targeted seven times, Terry McLaurin could only reel in one catch.

CHIEFSPAT was on another level with their wideouts, as they started two of the league's top-10 overall WRs this week (including Higgins, who was best overall).

For the victorious side, several players have been playoff studs, including Higgins and Smith. During the playoffs, that duo has topped their season scoring averages by 160% and 82%, respectively. Conversely, CHIEFSPAT has a pair of players heading in the opposite direction. Cole Kmet and Jake Moody have both substantially underperformed their year-to-date averages during the postseason. Despite the loss, Evan also had a few players performing their best in the playoffs, most notably Sam LaPorta and Evans. During the postseason, that combo has averaged 16.35 and 20.80 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 72% and 62%. On the other hand, the losers had a player who was sputtering under the brightest lights. Averaging 16.41 points on the season, Terry McLaurin mustered just 9.25 per game in the playoffs.

CHIEFSPAT ended the regular season in fifth place with a record of 8-7. When considering points per game, they ranked slightly better (fourth with 114.27). In their only other postseason game on their trek to a consolation title, CHIEFSPAT beat 3F, 140.32 to 111.44. Evan concluded the regular season in seventh place with a record of 5-10. From a points per game perspective, they ranked slightly better (fifth with 116.41). In their only other postseason game of the season, Evan defeated Austin, 157.42 to 123.68.
