Jets general manager Darren Mougey said...
Jets general manager Darren Mougey said Monday that the team intends to exercise the fifth-year options of Gardner (hamstring), Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson (Achilles), Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Gardner, Wilson and Johnson were all selected by New York in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and the Jets plan to extend all of their rookie contracts through 2026. The No. 4 overall pick of that draft year, Gardner's guaranteed base salary in 2026 will project at $20.1 million guaranteed, though he will work to negotiate a long-term extension before then. A hamstring injury forced Gardner to spend the final game of the 2024 regular season on IR, but he projects to be fully ready for the start of mandatory offseason activities.

The Browns signed Needham to a contract Monday.
Analysis: Needham joins Cleveland as a veteran depth option at cornerback just days ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 28-year-old spent the first six years of his NFL career with Miami, where he was a well-rounded contributor on defense prior to suffering an Achilles tear during the 2022 season, after which point he struggled to regain his prior form. Needham has experience in the slot, outside and at safety.

Jets GM Darren Mougey said Monday that he plans to exercise the fifth-year option on Wilson's rookie contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Wilson's rookie contract will now run through 2026, with a fifth-year option for the final season projected at $16.8 million. He's likely still hoping for an extension this offseason after starting his career with three straight 1,000-yard campaigns as a high-volume target in bad offenses. The Jets figure to run the ball more now that they have dual-threat Justin Fields at quarterback, but Wilson should see a lot of targets anyway, as there isn't much competition for Fields' attention after the offense lost WR Davante Adams and TE Tyler Conklin this offseason.

The Seahawks have received trade inquiries about Howell and are open to trading him, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Howell served as Seattle's backup last season and threw just 14 passes behind the mostly healthy Geno Smith. With Smith now in Las Vegas, Seattle has revamped its quarterback room, bringing in both Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. GM John Schneider said earlier this week that Howell would compete with Lock for the backup QB role, but the organization's reported willingness to deal Howell suggests that Lock has the inside track on the job. Howell could be an intriguing option for teams in need of a backup QB -- despite his struggles in a very limited sample last season (he completed just five of those 14 pass attempts), he has ample experience as a starter, completing 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,946 yards and a 21:21 TD:INT over 17 regular-season games with Washington in 2023.
The Texans signed Smith to a...
The Texans signed Smith to a one-year contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Smith hooked on with Houston's practice squad last September and ended up getting signed to the team's active roster in December. The veteran tight end played in five total regular-season games and didn't see a target on offense, though he did catch one pass for two yards in the Texans' playoff loss to Kansas City. Smith figures to again be buried on Houston's depth chart when the team's tight-end corps is healthy, though Brevin Jordan is recovering from a torn ACL and Cade Stover fractured his collarbone in the team's wild-card win against the Chargers in January.
