      Week 16 Recap: Tuesday Edition

PurpleButcher Ekes Out Victory over Lowly Panthers to Get into Consolation Championship

PurpleButcher stole one from Lowly Panthers 114.86 to 110.84 to improve their season record to 3-0 against them. They improve to 7-9, while Lowly Panthers drops to 8-8. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 152 yards and was the reason for the win, garnering 32.50 points for PurpleButcher. The Carolina RB, a 14th-round pick, has been a key component for PurpleButcher and has been a reason why they have owned the season matchup. In three matchups with Lowly Panthers, PurpleButcher has a 20.37-point average margin of victory.

Each squad had a player that failed to capitalize on opportunites. Interestingly enough, DK Metcalf (on PurpleButcher) and Tyreek Hill (Lowly Panthers) were able to match each other's futility. They each saw seven targets, yet could reel in just three catches apiece.

For the winners, a few players have been hitting their strides at the right time, most notably T.J. Hockenson and Jordan Addison. Over the past four weeks, that duo has outperformed their season scoring averages by 52% and 50%, respectively. Conversely, PurpleButcher has two players moving in the wrong direction. The Minnesota Vikings DEF and Tony Pollard have both fallen well beneath their year-to-date averages recently. Despite the loss, Lowly Panthers had several players peaking for the postseason, including Nico Collins and Mark Andrews. Over the past month, that combo has averaged 17.70 and 14.68 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 42% and 42%. On the other hand, the losers had a player who was fading down the stretch. The Detroit Lions DEF has dipped below their yearly average by 63% over the past month.

Next week, the league consolation championship will be decided when PurpleButcher goes up against No. 3-seeded RobinhosGeeMen43. PurpleButcher is undefeated against RobinhosGeeMen43 in two matchups this season, with their last win coming in Week 10. Lowly Panthers finished the regular season in fifth place with a record of 8-7. From a points per game perspective, they ranked slightly better (fourth with 120.58). Lowly Panthers was one-and-done this postseason, losing in their first playoff matchup.
