Week 17 Recap: Tuesday Edition

With Their Top Guns Doing the Heavy Lifting, El ChupacaBrock Waxes 956RGV

Led by the triple threat of Jayden Daniels, Trey McBride, and Jonathan Taylor, El ChupacaBrock tore apart 956RGV 154.17 to 107.10. That threesome joined forces to score 89.17 points, substantially more than Jahmyr Gibbs, Travis Kelce, and Justin Jefferson (65.90 combined points), the top three on 956RGV. Daniels passed for three touchdowns, registering 31.27 points (227 Pas Yds, 127 Rsh Yds, 3 TD/1 Int). Taylor delivered two touchdowns to contribute 27.60 points (125 Rsh Yds, 2 TD), while McBride chipped in 30.30 points (123 Rec Yds, 1 TD). McBride also recorded his highest point total of the season. With 154.17 points, El ChupacaBrock had their top total of the season. Adding insult to injury, 956RGV got zero points from the Dallas Cowboys DEF. El ChupacaBrock exacted a bit of postseason revenge against 956RGV with this victory. In the teams' last playoff matchup, El ChupacaBrock lost in the quarterfinals in 2023.

There was one notable starter on El ChupacaBrock who wasn't fully in tune with his QB. Despite being targeted seven times, Terry McLaurin could only reel in one catch.

For the winners, several players have been playoff studs, including Taylor and Daniels. During the playoffs, that duo has exceeded their season scoring averages by 63% and 44%, respectively. Conversely, El ChupacaBrock has a player trending in the wrong direction. Breece Hall has fallen significantly short of his year-to-date average in the postseason by 29%. Despite the loss, 956RGV had a couple of players performing their best in the playoffs: Cooper Rush and Gibbs. During the postseason, that combo has averaged 13.02 and 26.70 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 46% and 37%.
