Week 16 Recap: Tuesday Edition

Ilze Rallies Against Desert Diablos, Heads to Championship

Ilze took advantage of 25.00 points from the Atlanta Falcons DEF (7 PA, 2 TD, 3 Sack, 2 Int, 1 Fum) and 21.98 from Joe Burrow (252 Pas Yds, 3 TD) to take down Desert Diablos 140.18 to 117.76. Ilze came into the Sunday night game facing a 10.18-point deficit, but scored 11.90 for the comeback victory. This matchup saw four lead changes, with the largest lead being 22.42 points after Monday night. Ilze has played Desert Diablos well lately, improving to 2-1 head-to-head this season, including a Week 14 repeat comeback (152.56 to 114.68) in their last matchup. James Conner led Desert Diablos with 26.60 points (117 Rsh Yds, 49 Rec Yds, 1 TD) while Derrick Henry racked up 20.90 (162 Rsh Yds, 27 Rec Yds).

For the winning side, several players have been playing their best at the right time, including the Atlanta D and Mike Evans. Over the past four weeks, that duo has topped their season scoring averages by 176% and 65%, respectively. Conversely, Ilze has a player heading in the opposite direction. Cooper Kupp has fallen well beneath his year-to-date average recently. Despite the loss, Desert Diablos also had a few players peaking for the postseason, most notably Conner and Tee Higgins. Over the past month, that combo has averaged 22.68 and 15.45 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 41% and 41%. On the other hand, the losers had a couple of players who were fading down the stretch: D'Andre Swift and Henry.

Next week, the league championship will be decided when Ilze faces top-seeded Josh. Josh is the highest-scoring team this season, averaging 151.20 points per game. Desert Diablos finished the regular season in second place with a record of 9-6. They also ranked second in the league with 124.61 points per game. Desert Diablos was one-and-done this postseason, losing in their first playoff matchup.
